Best Weed Eaters for Tall People

You’re probably getting tired of hearing about this, but the weed whacker is a major back pain generator for a couple of reasons:

1) Weed whackers are just too low to the ground. If your weed eater has an adjustable post (many do), raise it as high as it will go. Unfortunately, many just aren’t tall enough for a six-footer to stand upright and have good control of the tool, especially on rough terrain. Also unfortunately, when you’re using a string trimmer/weed whacker, posture matters . You want to keep your body in a straight line from head to toe–no twisting or bending over at all if possible!

2) Many people don’t bend their knees enough when trimming, so they are hunching over instead of using their body weight to help them bend the weed whacker. This is a big mistake that’s hard to recognize because it feels normal and natural at first. When you’re bent over too much, though, those weeds stay on the ground longer between trimmings, so your lawn gets longer which makes your next trimming session take even longer…and before long you’re spending more time tripping over your own feet than actually cutting weeds! If any part of your body other than your arms is touching the ground when you stand up straight–you’re bending over too far! Bending forward from the hip with knees flexed for balance gives you good control without forcing you into an awkward posture. If you have a choice, always use your body weight to help bend the trimmer instead of using arm strength alone. If you have to winch your weed eater into the air by hand, that’s a good sign you’re bending over too much!

How To Know if Your String Trimmer is Too Short For You

Here’s a quick experiment you can do to see if your weed eater is an efficient tool for your height or not–and how much it contributes to back pain. First, step on a tape measure and adjust it so that the zero end is on the floor. Place the other end around your neck, holding it behind you while standing up straight. How long is the tape measure? If it’s less than 45 inches when placed around your neck then most weed eaters that are available will be too short for you to use easily and safely.

If the tape measure is more than 45 inches, then your weed eater will be too high to use easily and safely. Why? Because you’ll be forced to bend over even more than usual–which means more back pain!

I know what you’re thinking: “If it hurts my back to use a weed eater, then how could I possibly complete all of my yard work?” And that’s a perfectly reasonable question! While I’m sure your doctor would prefer you avoid activities that make your back hurt, sometimes people don’t have a choice–and even if they did, life wouldn’t be nearly as much fun. If you need to trim some weeds in a hurry and can’t afford the time or money for professional landscaping help right now (you’d be surprised at how expensive lawn care services are!), then take a look at our list of the 2021 Best Weed Eaters For Tall People below:

Review:

Solid 5-stars on this one. This weed whacker is hands down the best I’ve ever owned.
Battery/ies DO come with it.
Fairly solid construction – it’s got plenty of plastic pieces, but they aren’t too flimsy or easily breakable.
Battery power and life are excellent. I’ve got a small to medium-sized yard with a fence around it, and one battery takes care of it all. Just in case it were to run out, the second battery (which comes with, if you choose that option) is on the charger.
There are two battery “modes” – power and battery life – and they do exactly what they sound like. Power mode gives you more cutting power (at the expense of battery life) and battery life gives you longer cutting time (at the expense of cutting power). I’ve found that the vast majority of my weekly weed whacking needs are taken care of using the battery life mode. You can quickly and easily switch between the two modes if you need a little more oomph….

Review:

I purchased this item for my husband to replace our gas weed eater/trimmer when we replaced the gas powered lawn mower after that repair would cost more than a new mower. This weed eater has not let us down yet. I am exceptionally happy with this purchase! The weed eater is cordless and has a rechargeable battery, which adds only a slight increase in weight, but doesn’t make it uncomfortable to hold. The weed eater is available without the battery and charger, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you already have one.

For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT and compact Lithium-Ion Batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating star protection inside.

Review:

I watched quite a few Youtubes comparing various battery powered weed trimmers. I already have a Makita electric (corded) chainsaw and it is great. I watched a couple of Youtubes about the Makita trimmer and when I saw that this trimmer came with 4 batteries I decided to get one. I have used it for several days and it has more than enough power to cut any weeds that a gas powered trimmer cuts. It has three power levels and for most trimming, the lowest speed works just fine. For the really thick stuff, I have used the highest speed. The battery life is great. Using a variety of power levels, I trimmed for well over an hour and half. Having the two extra batteries makes any job a one day affair. I especially enjoy just picking it up and turning it on and starting to trim. No gas, no rope pulling, and almost no noise. It is very quiet, just the noise from the trimmer cord. Four batteries, long run time, plenty of power, and low noise makes this a winner for me.

Review:

I wanted to wait after a few uses. I think I’ve used it about 9-10 times now. So glad we got this. It is really light and makes trimming and edging seem almost fun now. Thinking back to my corded trimmer and always having to manually feed the line because the autofeed never worked right. The autofeed works on this almost flawlessly. I’ve only had to open the cap with the line twice. Once because I didn’t autofeed in time and the line was no longer sticking out then the 2nd time was to swap it out. I just bought the 6 pack of line here on amazon because it was basically the same price.

Review:

For the price this is a good trimmer. If you are planning on using this as a business tool, think again. This is a good trimmer for someone that wants to maintain their own lawn. For those who have never used a gas-powered trimmer remember you have to mix the appropriate amount of 2 stroke oil to gas ratio. Or you will burn the motor up!
